About Us:
The Health Department was created by the vote of the people in September 1, 1960, and has served the residents of Taney County since its doors opened on February 1, 1961. It is primarily funded through a county mill tax and is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees elected at-large for a four year term.
The Health Department is located in the county seat at Forsyth. A second office was opened October 2, 1995, in Branson to meet the needs of the citizens in the western part of the county.
In 2005, Taney County and City of Branson Health Departments jointly met all the criteria to be recognized as Advanced Accredited Public Health Departments for a three year period.
In February, 2008, in an effort to reduce duplication of services and reduce costs to county residents, the City of Branson Health Department was integrated into the Taney County Health Department, bringing with it, the certified drinking water lab, Environmental Services - including bite investigations for all of Taney County, and Animal Control for the City of Branson.
As of April 3, 2008, both Taney County Health Department locations became Tobacco Free campuses.
In September 2008, the Department achieved the Advanced level of Accreditation for another three year period.
As part of our continuing efforts to reduce costs and duplication of services to Taney County residents, on September 1, 2009, the Taney County Commission contracted with TCHD to provide animal control services for the whole of Taney County under the current Taney County animal ordinance and municipal contracts. This provision covers not only regulation of dogs running at large in the county and animal bite investigations, but daily operation of the kennel facility at 255 Critter Trail, Hollister, off State Highway 165.
The purpose of the Health Department is to protect the health of the public by preventing the occurrence and spread of disease and to promote healthy practices and lifestyles. The Health Department works closely with local agencies and health professionals to assure that basic environmental health services are available to all persons in the county.
The Health Department’s vision is that “Taney County will be a community of well people living in a healthy and safe environment.”

The Forsyth office is located at 15479 US Hwy 160, in the Cedar Square Shopping Center.

Founded in 2003, MICH is a public /private partnership that supports a systems approach aimed at improving the health of Missourians. One of the priorities for this group was to provide an effective method to evaluate public health capacity through a voluntary accreditation program. This group agreed that an independent entity was needed to administer such a program, and to be the catalyst for public health workforce professional development. MICH has assumed this role and administers the voluntary accreditation program for Missouri.
