Animal Care & Control

The Taney County Health Department assumed operations of Animal Control services for Taney County in August 2009. The Department operates the Animal Shelter located at 255 Critter Trail, in Hollister, Missouri with a seven member staff of Animal Control Officers (ACO) and kennel technicians.

In the City of Branson the ACO's inspect and permit all animal exhibits, patrol and enforce codes, and issue citations.

The ACO’s enforce all animal ordinances and respond and investigate complaints in the unincorporated areas of Taney County.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide quality animal care and control services which protect the public and provide for animal safety with education, sheltering, and pet placement while having compassion toward all animals.

Lost/Found Animals and Animal Adoption

The Taney County Animal Care & Control Center maintains a site on Petango that displays all animals that are currently available to the public. The site includes pictures of animals that have strayed from their owner as well as owner surrendered and those available for adoption.  Or, visit Hometown Radio, Pet Connection tab or Petfinder.com to view animals at the center.

If your animal is not pictured, call or visit the center during hours of operation. 

The Taney County Animal Care & Control Center is open to the public Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Fees

  • Redemption fees

    A redemption fee is charged for any animal that has been picked up by an ACO.  The owner is required to pay a fee to reclaim the animal.  The fee varies, based on the jurisdiction that the animal was found and in some jurisdictions, the fee is paid at their location prior to claiming the animal at the Animal Shelter. Locations for payment of redemption fees are as follows:

  • City of Branson- Redemption fee of $90 is paid at the Taney County Animal Care & Control Center to retrieve your animal.
  • City of Forsyth- Pay redemption fee at the City Hall and bring paid receipt to the Animal Care & Control Center to retrieve your animal.
  • City of Hollister- Pay redemption fee at the City Hall and bring paid receipt to the Animal Care & Control Center to retrieve your animal.
  • Merriam Woods- Pay redemption fee at the Village Office and bring paid receipt to the Animal Care & Control Center to retrieve your animal.
  • Bull Creek- Pay redemption fee at the Village Office and bring paid receipt to the Animal Care & Control Center to retrieve your animal.
  • Unincorporated areas: $40 redemption fee for 1st impoundment, $80 for second impoundment of same animal.

Per Department of Agriculture regulations, owners must provide proof of current rabies vaccination when retrieving and animal. If proof is not provided an additional $10 fee will be collected.

  • Owner Surrender Fees

    Should circumstances require an owner to surrender an animal to the Animal Shelter, a $40.00 fee is charged for each animal surrendered.  Litters of kittens or puppies surrendered are charged $10.00 per animal.  

    Per Department of Agriculture regulations, owners must provide proof of current rabies vaccination when surrendering an animal. If proof is not provided an additional $10 fee will be collected.

  • Adoption Fees

Adult dogs- $85 (includes spay/neuter, one round of vaccinations including rabies, heartworm test and microchipping)

Puppies- $85 (includes spay/neuter, one round of vaccinations including rabies and microchipping)

Adult cats & kittens- $40 (includes spay/neuter, one round of vaccinations including rabies and microchipping)

Adoption packages (spay/neuter, one round of vaccinations including rabies, heartworm test- dogs only, and microchipping) can be used at Kirbyville Veterinary Clinic or Branson Veterinary Hospital

Help give an animal a second chance at a permanent home by making a donation.

Donations of cat/kitten, dog/puppy food, & blankets or toys are always greatly appreciated.

Wildlife in City of Branson

ACO's respond to wildlife complaints at businesses in the City of Branson. Personal property owners should contact a local pest control company for any wildlife nuisance issues. For more information contact the Animal Care & Control Center.

Inspections

Animal Control Officers inspect attractions or events involving animals to ensure the events operate within the required federal, state, and local guidelines.  Health permits are required for all animal attractions, whether permanent or temporary.
